MoP Jig stick, finally finished.

Hi All,

I've been building this for a while now, about 4 months (2 months of that waiting for the last 2 parts to arrive).

Blank is rated 10-20kg and is 6' 2pc Butt jointed jig stick. Custom painted by a very talented paint dude in Pearl Blue and Pearl green.

All metal and bling components, bar 1 are from the Alps collection, with the odd one from Fuji.

Grips are Matagi blue camo EVA custom shaped.

Ab-Veener under all guides and in between the split grips.

Guide wraps are Pac Bay #A nylon black with Met Blue & Met green trim bands., Tiger wrap is Met Blue, Met Green and Gude HT Pearl under with Pac Bay black over.

Split grip is trimmed in the middle and ends with HT Pearl Olive branches.

I am looking forward to seeing a bend in this rod.

Glad the build is over, but super happy with the result.

Store-bought bling is one thing, but this is the real deal. That's a really really great job. Well done mate, that's one of those ones to be very proud of.

So the pattern on the split and the butt join, is that a weave?

Not back in for two weeks. I'll have to bring the rod in when we go for a fish. What days are good for you.

Gra, the split grip is a super thin Ab-veener epoxied down then trimmed in the middle and ends with a basic thread wrap. The top of the butt joint is another trim wrap. The butt wrap is a tiger wrap with 3 colours under, 1 colour over and 2 sacrifical threads.

The gimbal is actually made up of three bling components put together over an EVA plug Then glued to the blank.

Yeah, have seen the abalone strips and considered them before, very nice look. I love the trim wraps though, basic weave you may say, but works really well with the abalone, nice eye for detail you have I'd say.

In the process of building a PE2 jig rod for the yak myself at the moment. Won't be anywhere near the quality of this piece of art tho.
Using a Xzoga Taka-G 10kg blank which feels really nice.

That is a thing of great beauty. Gee you should be very proud of being the lucky recipient of such art. I know i would. It would drive my wife crazy watching me sit in front of the tv every night waving my new rod and stroking it for months after receiving it. There is no way it'd make it to the shed for ages.

For the matching reel, after consultation with Craig450 (and Nick), I went with a Daiwa Saltist 6500H with 200m of mono 20 pound backing and 300m of 30 pound Power Pro Braid (Yellow). Looks sweet, not sure if I want to use it or just keep looking at it.

Yeah I'd have loved the Saltiga Nick but I need the cars I'd have had to sell to own one!
