As such, the AKFF admin team divides up responsibilities across the forum; each member of the team is responsible for a subset of the site, and a lot of stuff happens behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly without anyone ever realising it. However, since the mods are amateur volunteers, with normal jobs, families (and of course, fishing to do!), there will be times when we miss stuff.
Luckily, AKFF is a fundamentally driven by it's members, and our new forum format gives everyone the capability to participate in the process of keeping topics on track.
One of the new features of the new AKFF forum, is the 'report a post' feature. You'll find it in the top right-hand corner of each post, and it looks like an exclamation mark:
This post reporting feature gives you the ability to pseudo-anonymously (only the moderators have access to the report) highlight a particular post, for action by the administrative team.
Here's an example of it in action:
Lets assume that a forum member takes offence at the language that sockpuppet used in his/her post.
They'd click on the little 'notification' icon at the top of sockpuppets post.
A new window will pop up, asking for details:
There are several options available from the drop-down box, including:
- Profanity: The post contains inappropriate vulgar, abusive, racist, or sexist language.
- Off-topic: The reported post is off topic.
- Harassment: The post is designed to intimidate, or harass another user.
- Commercial: The post is an unsolicited commercial post, contrary to AKFF policy.
- Warez: The post contains links to illegal or pirated software.
- Spam: The reported post has the only purpose to advertise for a website or another product.
- Other: The reported post does not fit into any other category.
Once you click the submit button, the post will be marked for the attention of the moderation team.
It'll look something like this:
Once the administration team have had a peek at the report, action of some sort will be taken. A few discussions may occur in the background, and the mods will close the report with an explanation of the actions which may have been taken. Action may include sending out a notification message to the original poster, along these lines:
It may also include a temporary (days, weeks, etc) or permanent account ban.
The mods (Scott, Ken, Dave, Jason, and myself) encourage you to become familiar with, and use, this capability.
Of course, feel free to continue to tell people to pull their heads in on the board if you prefer, but this will really help us find posts that are tucked away in potentially hard-to-find threads, or may be considered borderline.
Red.
