I have done it .I have taken delivery of a 2011 golden papaya Adventure Island. Hope to christen it this weekend.So if you see some idiot sailing around out at lake Macquarie on Sunday that does not look like he knows what he is doing that will probably be me.Can I now apply to join the AI club.

Advice : you end up with so much crap to take with you you need to start preparing a pilot style checklist. Experience : went to Kangaroo island with a mate for several days : unpacked my boot full of gear and found that I had left my Mirage drive at home - fortunately my mate had brought a spare.

HI Evan I will be out on Sunday. If you see an AI cruisin around the lake with no one on board could you please return it to me.I will be floating around somewhere out there.Maybe a leg rope is the answer.

I had my maiden voyage on the AI on Sunday.I launched from Bolton Point on the west side of Lake Macquarie. Had a few minor hiccups rigging up but sorted it out eventually.The wind was not kind but when a gust came through the sail would fill and off it would go.They are a great yak and will be a lot of fun to sail.I recommend them to everyone. I didn't do any fishing
but there were a lot showing up on the fishfinder.I was surprised how easy it was to pedal compared to the outback. I was expecting it to be harder and slower with the outriggers ,furled sail and extra weight but I was pleasently surprised and I think it was faster than the Outback.The Adventure through life will certainly be enhanced now I have made the jump to the AI.

Good to hear all went well, I seem to get the furling line messed up never unrolling it enough .

Still haven’t fished off the AI setup, just too much fun hoooonning around on it!

Hi mate,

You may already know this, but when you rig your mast, make sure there is no rope spooled on the spool with the sail furled right up. The rope will come onto the spool when you haul the black sheet (rope) and the sail extends. Also a good idea to knot the wrong end of both ropes together, then each rope is easier to find. I hope that makes sense, and you probably knew all about that anyway.

Thanks Andybear, I found out about unspooling the furling rope the hardway.I knew about tying the two ends together I just didn't unfurl enough rope the first time. Lesson learned.
