Anyhow the foam should be made from foam that 'isnt' water absorbing ..............

All up this shouldnt cost anyone more than $30 - unless you get the foam from Clark Rubber -

mate anyone wishing to try your idea can use a pool noodle that costs about $3 and gives enough foam for a dozen scupper plugs.

never occured to me to use a pool noodle, have thought about that kind of foam but would have prefered to use something a little more stronger or glue worthy to keep the vinyl tube from moving in and out of.

Either way thanks for the idea :)

I think most useful DIY i've seen on here is Sunshiners espri/kingfisher centre storage basket. Winds hands down on the usefulness/difficulty index.

To nominate one of my ones: The Kingfisher Rear Well Cover.

As Gatesy said, you have to be in it to win it. So I'll enter my mods on my BFS. Looky http://www.akff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=42164. There's really several different DIY efforts combined in this and the value is probably more in the ideas than the execution. However I'm pretty happy with the battery tray. Costs, 3 x hatches $45, Cable glands $7, Aluminium $0, Hardware $10, Clear hose for handles $7, Spectra cord $8, EVA foam $8, Sikaflex $12, Time spent thinking about it and doing it - Priceless!. Total $97. Was fun exploring what can be done too.

Cheers, Brad

The AKFF DIY Comp has come to a close with a number of innovative and inspiring entries crossing the eyes of the AKFF Thought Thinking committee. Thank you for your entries and nominations, but in this case there can only be one winner of the Shimano Sienna 4000FD. Of the entries received there were some real contenders but we had to take into account many factors like innovation, ease of build, adaptability to a variety of yaks, drill holes, materials used, function, cost, initial date of the first post and practical application. In addition, a couple of nominations like Bazzoo's sail and Sunshiner's basket were canned because no link was provided for us to better understand the fundamental operating processes of those devices.

The Winner of the AKFF DIT Comp is:

Lapse

Please stand up and accept your prize. It was decided that your Kingfisher rear well cover is the duck's guts. The reason we chose yours over all the other fine entries is based on the following reasons: It is a building job within the realm of many yakkers, it can be adapted to a bunch of different brands, the device is capable of performing multiple functions; it was made recently and sports advancements like a hinge system, foam insulation and rod holders not seen recently; It uses cheap, commonly available materials that are easy to work with and boasts an endless range of practical yak fishing applications.

Congratulations Lapse on a fine effort.

Well done Lapse - the DIY section has been one of the most useful topic sections of AKFF - so to get the most useful of the most useful is an achievement ! :D

Ah thanks guys!
Credit of course also goes to all the people that I have stolen ideas from over the past year and a bit - including a few that I looked at before making my cover. Plus all the ideas I look at and say "that'd be useful... I'll get to that next week" (including a fair few others that were entered in the comp!).

The helpful comments from this site is what makes it great - I know when I first came here, I was looking for ideas from people about a mod I was planning to do to my surf ski and the feedback I received was quite unlike any other internet forum. (in a good way of course)

Anyway, Thanks a lot AKFF and the organisers of this comp!
