AKFF TV & The new AKFF front page

Postby RedPhoenix » Sun Jun 21, 2009 6:33 pm

The team at AKFF have been beavering away as usual behind the scenes, coming up with ways to improve the web site, and the resources it offers. With the surge in popularity of member videos in the last few months, the team have come up with a central area where member videos can be showcased and exhibited. We call this "AKFF TV".

Most Digital Cameras on the market are capable of taking youtube-quality videos these days, and members have been using them to great effect. Each month we will review members submitted trip report / competition videos and any other section (off topic excluded) of the forum that contains video pertaining to members fishing from their kayaks, and add them to AKFF TV.

As part of the expansion of non-forum resources, the admin team have also come up with a new front-end interface to the site, replacing the old "random photo" / redirect. This interface is available from http://www.akff.net/ , and provides a tabbed way of browsing the all the old links that used to hide away near the top of the forum header, plus a few new ones. The forum, the wiki, AKFF TV, and the new AKFF events calendar, will open by default in the respective tabs. The AKFF Chat, AKFF slideshow, and the merchandise tab will also be available, and will open the associated content when you click on the appropriate link within each tab. Hopefully, this will make the enhancements made to AKFF over the years, feel like a integrated part of the site.

There is also a 'Close Tab Header' link, which just takes you directly to the forum, just in case you decide that you don't want the tab header on your screen, and you'll also notice a new search entry-box, which will search the entire site; forum, wiki, and so on. So, please update your bookmarks - http://www.akff.net/ (rather than the old http://www.akff.net/forum) - and let us know what you think of the new features!

For what it's worth..." I like it", definitely an improvement.

Now I just need to find how to right click and "open in new tab" again! Something happened with my internet explorer last night and I seem to have lost that function :( :(

This new thing is great, though I have one problem.
How do you open Tab Header after accidentaly closing it via the the "button" above Search AKFF.

Thankyou to all the Mods (and not-Mods) who added these features to the site. You do great work for us. ;-)

Either pop back to the akff front page - http://www.akff.net/ - or click on the 'Back to the AKFF front page' link that sits in the lightish blue bar to the left of 'logout'.

A great improvement to the homepage, Thanks for the heads up, I have the forum homepage bookmarked so would have missed the change for months without the heads up :)
At least I remember how to paddle, just need to work out how to fish.
