Dodge Swing

The 'T 1V' is a Swing 400 from HoK and ordered with the rear hatch, and paddled by Waikato paddle.

It is fitted out with ideas seen on the AKFF forum with some minor variations.

The paddle is tethered at a saddle on the gunwale near my left footrest.

In the rear well, the webbing straps were removed and aluminium loops were screwed on and a surround rope is used to attach any cargo with occy straps or ropes.

The anchor trolley has a s/s dogclip which guides the anchor line from a cleat near the rear rod holder; a second cleat opposite enables a bridle rig for towing if required....EDIT the anchor trolley is now full length, another photo later in this thread

EDIT Have just included my bolt-in method of transducer installation which has been successfully abused for the last 4 months, and is withstanding all tests and as expected no leaks which caused others concern when originally posted

EDIT Have now included my version of a large cockpit hatch which addresses the one weakness the Swing has by only having a tiny 6" inspection hatch when sold new

Nice swing Dodge, the modifications you have performed are great, I to think the webbing straps are not very user friendly. I might pinch a few of your handy ideas and put on my swing in the near future. Aren't swings such a great kayak, so much deck space to put all necessary accessories.

Looking very nice Richo, you've been busy with the mods. That rear well is massive, but a bit hard to use on the water. You didnt include a close up of the rear view mirror m8.

John the mods work for me so am content.
Noticed the PB bass, in spring will have a swing meet out your way [after I can catch the bloody things] and you can take to your second best spot; seeing we haven't met its improper to ask for the top spot

Karl not long after you left the pub the kiwis poured in to watch a test against Ireland and it was bedlam, Shane and I left quickly after that.
The mirror worked OK at Currumbin today, will do minor modification to Mark 2 standard and it will be perfect, took pics and will post in next day or two

dodge, T 1V looks good.... How does the fwd adjustable rod holder go?? does it interfere with your paddle stroke at all? I have an adjustable holder but have not fitted it yet. The swing we have has all the hatches you can fit...... plus a pod for the picnics by the sea

Shane prior to fitting the Berkley I saw in a thread a comment by The Mariner, and Phil said to mount it no further aft then 90mm behind your foot and you would get at least a 90% normal stroke and this is the case.
Further forward and it would be difficult to readily access, you can get a full stroke in by angling it forward one notch if you wish; its a great position to watch the rod tip trolling

The good thing about the berkley rod holder is it's easily removed, I have mine in the same position, if I want to put the power on to cover some distance I just whip the berkley out so I don't need to worry about it, but for casual paddling it doesnt get in the way on the esprit, and I usually find in estuary, river or impoundment fishing, when trolling, that slower is often better.

GO THE GREEN & GOLD - I am planning on getting at least another 3 kayaks - all swings, all green and gold.

Not as hard as you might think. On the Swing it's heaps easy to just turn yourself around & let your legs hang over the side, then lean sideways back to the tankwell. Sitting sideways also makes it easier to see what you are doing compared to trying to turn backwards.

Naturally I agree with your comment Phil, and side saddle is also a pleasant way to fish on a hot day with ankles in the water..very happy with the boat
