This is my latest new toy after much debate with all the choices out there it was a toss up between 4.3 ultra and the Cuda. But the Cuda has much better rod storage for surf launches you have just gotta love that big hatch inbetween your legs. Hopefully i might get a Spanish mackeral to put in there soon. And i have to say it handles the ocean well seems to track good have only been out once though has been a fair bit of swell up here at Woolgoolga. :D :) :D

That's one very sexy looking yak. From what i've seen of them it will be perfect for outside fishing. I envy you with that super comfy chair too.

Hey Jamie

Sounds like the age old love story. Hormones racing, can't see the warts, haven't played the field.

Settle petal. Think, have a drink, think, then put it off for a few days.

What do you want a kayak for? ..... offshore, surf launches, close inshore, estuary, lakes, rivers?

Hello the stability of the cuda with seat in high position is pretty good not as good as low position with too high a center of gravity but i couldn't see a need for to be in high position in the ocean. myself and a mate have tried in a lake at woopi in the high position it would be great for sight fishing for whiting bream or anything and still could be paddled with ease. And for standing up in the Cuda I couldn't get up off the seat but thats just me Ive got a bung knee But my mate Wal could get up and down with ease with or without the assist strap. And the storage is excellent i can put my rods and every thing else in the centre hatch and not have to much of a worry comeing in through the Surf. :D :D :D

Just a quick comment, mate took delivery of his Coosa on Saturday and yesterday had to head back to the bank of a small lake during a wind blow to lower the seat, felt (his words) "vulnerable" with the seat up, had no problem with it lowered..

Didn't that lead you to buying an AI which you discovered after putting it off a few days?

When I tested the coosa and cuda offshore down south of sydney it was bloody sloopy conditions, reflected swell all over the shop. No chance in heck of standing up in those conditions and I kept the seat in the low position in both craft.

But that's the whole beauty, even low its comfortable and your bum is dry so in less than ideal conditions your still happy as a pig in mud and on the better days you have the option of the high seat and when in the estuary you can stand and sight your cover or fish as described earlier.

At no stage do you have to expose yourself by being high but the option is there when you do want it and can take advantage of it.

As for standing offshore - I haven't yet done it as conditions haven't suited it when I've been able to get to the coast, I was tempted to try it but decided that in rougher conditions i would definitely want a leg rope like on a surf board.

In Estuarys I spent 90% of my time standing with the seat in high - I only ever dropped it lower to paddle home again which you can do in seconds on the fly.

I did capsize the cuda when surfing waves and had to do a deep water reentry which was really quite easy.

Ive got some helmet cam footage somewhere of beach launches etc in the cuda and coosa as well as some general usage offshore, I'll see if i can find it anywhere.

Cheers
Ben

G'day Ben,

Does that mean the cuda is no good in the surf? How does it go in surf launches and re-entries?

Cheers

Hello well i've had a couple surf launches in my Cuda and not had any problems i put my rods and every thing else in the big hatch. It seemed to track well comeing in on a very small wave {about 2ft} have not had had it in any large surf not that i want to anyway. And as for my fishing rods I can only fit 2.1m long rods in the center hatch .

Not at all I was just pushing the limits and trying to surf a reef break on one  I do such things from time to time to have a laugh. It punched through rough water really well, it was decent swell and messy that day and out the back in cut a decent speed through the slop, getting out through some pretty big waves was fine - wet but fine, but like on any yak not for the feint of heart. Coming back in i had no issues just picked my spot between bigger sets.If I was looking for an ocean boat the cuda would be my pick, but as it stands im mostly in rivers and estuarys so i have a coosa.
