Check out C-Kayak at 1/5 Marstan Close, West Gosford NSW - (02) 4324 2867... they might have a demo that you can try before you by.

Welcome to the forum Grant - I'll keep a look out for a Barrcuda off Marino - good chance its likely to be you !

Early Autumn next year I will be down around the Semaphore/Largs Bay area. Might take my Barracuda with me for an interstate drive. Any hints or tips on chasing KG whiting will be most appreciated. ;-) :)

I like the look of these and they are probably the only yak I've seen that temps me to change.
Shame the front hatch is so small.

How many rods could you load in the tube ?

Yeh the front hatch is a problem. I like to be able to fit my trolly in the front hatch so it's out of the way.

Can any of those in possession of one of these tell me the make of the small round hatches, I need to replace one and I like the way these are raised. They may be their own but worth a try.

Cheers

It's on my list too Greg, but unfortunately there aren't many around, and I definitely want to check it out in the plastic before I buy. The dealers can't keep them on the showroom floor apparently as they go like hot cakes. They have advised they will give me a heads up when the container arrives sometime next month, so if they don't post here first I'll let you all know.

There's a few people raving about this yak at the moment, what's the big appeal to it? Just the weight?
Cheers

For someone like me who can't have a ski because I usually launch off rock it is a good compromise.

Not sure what size hatches you are talking about(I don't know the yak), but a magic 10" rubber top hatch that lasts 12+ years is available from Natureline Canoes (Kerry Richards) for about $ 75. They are easy to open and close, and seemingly never UV degrade. I have them in several of my sea kayaks, and they never leak, even if you're upside down.

Contact Natureline at email: canoes@natureline.com.au (for Jenkins Hatches and fitting ring)

Big appeal to me? - weight/portability, stability, the way it tracks, with or sans rudder, it's speed and its all-round usability. Have had a couple of yaks over the past two years (one which both my wife and self still use as a tandem for recreational paddling and fishing) but this Barracuda ultralight is in a total class of its own. Difficult to compare with any other in the market at this point in time... IMHO. :)

Need to try one out to come to your own conclusion. The exchange rate between the A$ and NZ$ also make this boat a very attractive proposition at this point in time too. I have just taken delivery of the standard version. Paid $1,990. Understand the angler version with the centre console is several hundred dollars extra. 8)

Getting to try before you buy is difficult, because as Occy has reported, they are normally all pre-ordered/sold pre-arrival and any left are usually sold as soon as they hit the showroom floor. A mate of mine has a Barracuda Beachcomber Ultralight Sea Kayak which I have paddled on a few occasions, which impressed me no end. This and the videos on YouTube swayed me to buy this yak without trying it out. Being 5' 10" and 112kg, any yak I paddle gets a rigorous workout... this particular yak handles my weight with ease and flies effortlessly across the water (ocean so far!) so you have one happy chappy here. :D

Taking it out on my first fishing foray this weekend... light gear only. Estuary only using poppers and plastics chasing flatties and bream. Looking forward to it! :D

Cheers,

Mick

The hatch cover is engraved with a big P and the writing around the hatch is Pacific Plastics Australia. There is a Pacific Plastics on the Web in Australia and they do marine plastics as well. Could be the mob.

Found them, they are actually called Pacific Nylon Plastics. Waiting to see if they will sell direct or not.
Based in WA.
