Cart issues with my TI

Postby romenfree » Thu Dec 22, 2011 12:24 pm

Hi all,
newbie to this forum, wondering if I could get feed back or any ideas on a safe cart system for a TI. I have had my first hull replaced under warrenty because the scupper tubes split on the top outer edged.

This damage is not from the cart slipping out and the pole pushing through the inside of the tube as I have heard happens alot

I have tried the cart in the rear scupper tubes, this seemed to be a better option for the hull but not much good for my back. I have just finished making a swivel wheel for the front mirage drive hole, I am hoping using this and the cart in the rear scuppers will sovle the issue.
Has anyone tried this before?
I have decided to attach a couple of pics, please excuse the look of the thing, was going to use that white chopping board plastic but stuck with what I had in the shed. The swivel wheel is supposed to be rated for use in water but I need to find a lubricant / protector that won't foul the water.

I have tested the three wheeler and had some sucess.
The problem I thought I would be the biggest was attaching the front wheel in the water to retrieve the yak but this proved to be quite easy using the belt and sliding it under the hull from the front then clipping it and adding tention. A little tricky but not the swim I thought it would be.
Other cons I found, can't have sail in place in any breeze as it tends to tip, a real pain to load onto the car, with the wheel cart in the rear scuppers, this has to be removed before lifting the rear of the kayak onto the roof.
Does anyone have a better system
Please excuse if these pics are too big.

Hi romenfree.
Im impressed, that looks pretty neat.
Sometimes Bob and I have to go down the road a bit to get our AI's in the water and that front wheel would be a blessing as it gets a bit heavy for me sometimes.
Love seeing other peoples ideas and thank you for sharing them. Unfortunately I have no answers for your problem. Hope some one can help you.
Cheers Deb.

I don't know why we use wheels instead of rollers. I was at the KI sailing club and dragging my AI on its cart was a struggle as the tide was out. I saw guys with much bigger boats - Hobie 16s, launch with ease as they have rollers about 30 cm wide on their carts and so it definitely rode on top rather than dug through. even with big wheels and low pressure mine always dig in and so am thinking about modifying. The TI must be a struggle on sand.

Was worried about the same. Recently swapped plug in cart for Dolly - really pleased with it.

These trolleys are awesome. Much easier load\unload on the beach and its so well balanced a 10 year old child can pull a TI along.

Or these, of which about 30 have been sold recently in (that I've heard of)....

(Contact Drew Valentine)[Mods: not a commercial plug....they just work, and are well engineered, and at a good price for AKFF'ers).
