Blue Rock - Sunday 27 Nov.

Postby SurfanFish » Wed Nov 23, 2011 2:39 pm

Rough plan is to meet from about 9:30 at the boat ramp, Old Tanjil Road and head up the River arm, perhaps explore a few local features, touch the end, have a break and throw some lures on the way back, although people naturally welcome to do their own thing. With no meandering, its a 24km (eric can correct if wrong on this) round trip and and fairly well protected inside the arm. There is a km of open water at the start/end that might test if the wind comes up otherwise it's fairly cruisey. At this stage the Moe blokes and 1 or 2 others are in.

Its known as Lake Disappointment for a reason but there are usually a few trout and redfin about. Always plenty of birds and sometimes wildlife up close and personal. A degree of insanity and irreverence is assured, as is the possibility of background music from the hills. As long as fazer turns up we have a sacrifice, if not, you have to paddle faster.

22km and so easy I can do it with one hand.

And I often do.

Sorry guys. I'm allergic to banjos and I still don't have the squeal perfected.

Someone else will have to be sacrificed.

You don't have any photos or video of it so it didn't happen.

I'm tempted to come along and meet a few people, but 22km???? Why???? If I do come along I'll go fishing instead.
And where is this mythical launch site? Google says no.

Craig - look up the town of Willow Grove, there is boat ramp and picnic area about 1km past the town. If you are interested, we'll make sure you get there. Via Trafalgar is probably the easiest route if you don't know the area but eric or TFM will correct if I am wrong, they are the locals. PM an email address if you want a map of the dam.

The 22km is optional, just an interesting paddle. Really not sure what everyone is really doing yet but there is a bay about 3 or 4kms in that I want to spend a fair bit of time throwing lures about in.

Always good to meet traveling AKFF'ers.

It's always choose your own adventure at Willow Grove. I like to paddle up to the river and sing cowboy songs. Surfanfish takes the fishing bit more seriously than me, TFM leaves the ramp with us but isn't seen until the end of the day because he has to sail the mighty muddy waters of Blue Rock and torment the bait soakers and as for Dutchbloke, we don't really know where he goes, but the banjos stop playing.

But that bay Rob mentioned looked real good last trip for trout, they were working the surface everywhere.

Sounds like it might be OK, if it ever stops raining.
What time do you meet back at the ramp at end of day?

We'll sort that out on the day. It's a bit contingent on weather and eric's fetish for crap paddles. I'd planned on 6-7 hours but am flexible. I'm bringing an inexperienced bloke so will be staying within his capabilities.

Hard to say what the weather is doing but the current forecast shouldn't be an issue. Need to keep an eye on it though.

Yeah, BOM starting to say 25-35 knots + for West Gippsland. Maybe good for an AI, not good for a newby. Have a good one if you go.
