Last paddles in Paradise

Who's going anywhere in the next 48 hours? I've got 2 days only - preferably, but not exclusively, offshore. (I've ditched Cape Moreton due wind strength and direction). Any paddle - back to back - Sunday/Monday? Please post or PM.

If no replies I'll go to Scarby and battle the (gradually decreasing) winds.

Gradually decreasing winds, and an opportunity for one last float (for me) on Monday early at Scarby, or somewhere.

Any suggestions?

Any starters?

I'm going out at Scarby tomorrow early for my last paddle (trolling HB's). Maybe the sea kayak .... still a bit windy for a SOT.

Anybody game? I'll be on on VHF, usual channel.

Catch all the tailor you like, K1, but you leave my snapper alone! (unless you do the gentlemanly drift... that would be OK!).

I reckon double long-tail hook-ups on those big alveys could make life interesting for you... love to be there to see it!

Hello Mr Frosty.

We're over it. Minimum 13 C, maximun 21 C. (for the moment).

Doubt the presence of the elusive longtails, but it really doesn't matter to me. I'm in for my last paddle for a while, fish or no fish. Enjoy your frosty walks, and the grandkids.

See ya in a week or two or three.

I did it ... my last paddle for some time, albeit in a sea kayak, for 3 hours.

Goodbye sea, goodbye paddling, goodbye paddling for a few weeks. Don't catch all the fish you bastards!

It was blowing 12 - 15 knots. Strangely enough, at an 8.00 am arrival (2 hours late), there was a tndem kayak returning and landing as i was starting to set up. They were a husband and wife team, relatively local, and no idea of the large fish that sometimes are caught at Scarby/Redcliffe. They were, from what I could gather, largely fresh water fishos. I was able to share some info on what might be hooked here, and give them some advice on jigheads/line ratings/reels etc for the area. They were not wearing PFD's.

A short time later, another kayak fisho launched from Scarby beach. He is a forum member (though hasn't posted for some time). He also was not wearing a PFD. By any measure it was reasonably rough and lumpy, but three out of three, no PFD, is not a good look re: safety attitudes, and I fear this will eventually affect us as a community, maybe in terms of government regulation for all kayakers to wear PFD's, which is not bad in itself. What is to be feared is a government regulation requiring licencing for all kayakers (in this the most over-governed country in the Western world).

It would only take a few more kayak disasters that grab the media attention for this to happen.

See you all in a while

And you're already at the computer! I believe you're addicted to it, Trev... ... So the deed has been did! and you're already up and giving cheek!

I guess you'll be sleeping on your belly for a while, eh?

What restrictions regards cooking meals, and regarding anything, really, Trev?

Do you have to have a maid come in and help you urinate? (can't lift heavy things and being a macho male, it wouldn't do to have a bloke help you in that field, eh?)

If you don't want all the others to know the gory details, just PM me... I won't tell a soul, heh, heh!

It's great to hear that it's finally been done, ol' mate...

Can't wait till you're back kickin' arse...

Cheers, Jimbo

Thanks SeekHunt. Thinking of walking down sometime in a week or so when one of you are out there. I am serious...if anyone from Brissie is going down in about a week, keep me posted (even better if you have a VHF). Maybe get a lift home.

(Let's see, 37 km, that's about 8 hours walking. Leave at 1.00 am, see you around 9 am.)

Gday Trev, hoping you are making a crisp recovery, this stuff is bloody frightening and reminds us that we are mortal.... I believe you are crusty enough to be tormenting us for a bloody long time to come. Stay well mate.

A week on (post operation).

Two days of nausea and high level pain killers. Still sore today, though less every day. Awaiting a biopsy result this Friday on the lymph nodes (underarm - to see if the cancer has spread to there).

Don't muck around with sun exposure. Cover up, from early am to late pm. The tiniest bit of damage can kill you later.
