Looking for first Yak

Postby yakrookie » Fri Apr 27, 2012 5:24 pm

I have been keen into kayak fishing for way to many months now and decided it is time to bite the bullet and go for it. As I am currently a poor uni student, money is a problem but something around the $500 - $650 margin.
I would need a kayak that would allow me to fish estuary, freshwater (skinny water) and just all round inshore fishing. I am currently around the 6' 3" mark and weigh around 75kg. Could anyone help me out with this delima?
Thank you in advance Yakrookie (Aidan).

You could get yourself an second-hand Viking Espri off ebay for as little as $300 if your willing to wait a few months; or you could look out for somthing like a second-hand Tarpon 120 or a Pacer.

An Espri is a great first kayak, it was my first and I fished that baby all over, and then I sold it for $300, still miss it a little bit. :(

Looks like a great starting kayak, and $300? Wow! That's so cheap, just off ebay?

I also vote for getting an Espri, I've had mine loaded up for camping and been in a bit of messy conditions and never felt unstable. They are one of the wider kayaks around which definately helps with stability but also is quite capable where ever you take it. Look in the trip reports and you will see one out off noosa in lumpy conditions chasing tuna.
