In theory, RC2 of the skin will be out Real Soon Now(tm)... though that has been the case for several months.
Phpbb is feeling very very staid. I wouldn't be surprised if some whipper snapper web2.0-enabled BB software comes along with a useful but minimalistic subset of features, and eats phpbb's lunch in the reasonably near future.
