Caravans on land

Hi guys pommie Roller here Just been thinking about Oz as I do most days lol, stuck here in the UK with a piss poor pound sterling [or is that super high Aussie doller ] and piss poor weather [yep summers here 11c and raining]

What's the deal on buying a plot of land, paddock etc and putting a caravan on it for permanent living or even just for 6 months of the year, over here its a defo no no. Unless its temporary accommodation for agricultural workers or you are one of the chosen few that have managed to get full consent from the local council or you're a Gypsy/Traveller who have specific cultural requirements

I seem to remember up on the Central Coast seeing a few caravans tucked up out the way on bits of land, I'd be interested to read any views on the subject. Tell you what you sure can get some nice big caravans these days

Cashed up? Got 120 acres of high mountain country for sale (100 kms from Brisbane) with views to die for (150 km panorama).
Includes caravan/outdoor toilet and easy access to inland waters, 1.5 hours to the ocean. No noise, no traffic, no visitors....just serenity.

Includes caravan/outdoor toilet and easy access to inland waters, 1.5 hours to the ocean. No noise, no traffic, no visitors....just serenity.

Sounds great, but I'm only looking for 1-2 acres mate, I'd hate to be paddock topping when I should be out on the kayak

Mate, it's all about the local council bylaws. There's plenty of blocks with weekender vans and sheds, generally seems to be frowned upon with anything smaller than rural acreage. Any idea on where you want to be?

There are many obscure little blocks of land around the place that are good for just that.....if you want them to be. There was one that sold up this way and it was a remnant piece of land that had been seperated from the main parcel by a railway line. It had rail tracks on one side of it which only get used 6 months of the year and the Bruce Highway on another side of it. Some guy blew into town and set up a nice new caravan there as a permanant residence and now operates a mini-excavator business from it. He actually improved it on what it was but I wouldn't like to live that close to tram-tracks knowing how often derailments happen.

Do some research using realestate.com or any similar website.

I'm not sure but I'm presuming so. I can find out on Friday when I speak to a council guy I know.

Yes and the closer to populate areas the more scares and expensive they are.

If you go 20 mins or half an hour out of town you should be able to find a small acreage that is still affordable, specially near Hervey Bay or Maryborough area.

Also, have you thought about what you gonna do about fresh water and waste water?

Most small acreages out of town are not supplied with fresh water (town water) and sewage. You have to get your own which is not a problem.
