Kings Cross shootings

Postby Davey G » Tue Apr 24, 2012 3:32 pm

Another event sure to divide the community was the recent Kings Cross / shooting/stolen car story. I say good on the coppers for having the guts to chase and stop these lunatics. Don't care what colour, race, age or gender the offenders are (although many will play this card)- they broke the law big time and put plenty of lives at risk and they deserved to be stopped in whatever way necessary. However knowing our judicial system, media and increasingly PC ways the youths involved will probably get nothing more than a smack on the wrist (and a nice gunshot scar) to show for their moment of drug and alcohol fuelled idiocy and the cops involved will probably be forced to sit through some sort of politically driven 'investigation' which will only serve to keep these guys in court and not out on the street actually helping the community. Why you'd ever want to be a cop when this is what you get for going to work is beyond me, but they are out there doing their best and keeping a smile on their face most of the time.

Almost everyone Ive spoken to on this has gotten behind the cops, however I note that there's been a protest going on today where protestors have been abusing the police and carrying on like the 'poor innocent kids in the car' have never done anything wrong in their lives and didn't deserve the treatment they got.http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/s ... 6336570335

"Why didn't they taser them"

Perhaps Liam could tell us about the effectiveness of a Taser on a Car, let alone one that has an innocent pedestrian under it. Though I'm sure he is professional enough not to enter into this.

Here is some further reading, on focusing on the fact that these kids have themselves to blame. Furthermore, it is unfortunate that some people will want to crucify some of the police officers over this event. After watching the video and having been under similar circumstances, I don't agree with the punching of the kid that has just been shot, some roughing up while you drag him to safety (away from the smoking car) and handcuff is tolerable. At all times, you need to be aware of your surroundings and in control of your emotions.

More importantly, how is the real victim of this event doing...the 29yr old girl that was mowed down by these hoodlums.

Would that be after shooting them but before removing them from then car, or in the back of the divvy van? Would the taser be in addition to the (alleged) punching, needed to subdue them, or instead of?
I think he's on the right track. Shoot, taser, punch and some capsicum spray for good measure. Repeat until effective.

I mean they didn't really have a choice but to shoot them.

Punching them in the head was a bit over the top.

I just want to see a car tasered, that would be cool!

Im not worried about the other stuff, just the car tasering, it intrigues me.

The offenders head was definitely on fire.. The police officer was just extinguishing the flames with his fist.

Its the Moe-Narracan News. You'd hate it, it's nothing like the print version of ACA you source for nees and views.

And I'm pretty sure those people in the pic aren't cops.

"Greens justice spokesman David Shoebridge said footage of the incident raised "serious and legitimate questions about police conduct". Really? Obviously wasn't his daughter or wife run over by these lads.

There is a comment by a bystander at 1.33 "They're not allowed to do that". I take it he means police using a firearm to halt the rampage of people in a stolen car who have just run over someone. If the force was excessive, the inquiry will decide.

I think they have a tough job. They have to deal with people like these kids and their actions, and actually far worse, where their own lives are in danger. They regularly get abused by people caught breaking the law, yet few of these people ever try to imagine a world without police. Police enforce laws, laws which are based on good priciples like do not steal, do not kill, do not endanger others.

I cannot imagine a world without police. IMO police generally do a fantastic job, but rarely receive thanks.

Agree with most of the above. The police used deadly force against someone who had already injured one other person using deadly weapon and threatening to hurt or kill more if not stopped. I see this as being no different had the assailant been firing a gun. Will probably use playing too much Grand Theft Auto as a defence.
The aledged beating after being removed from the car may have been over the top but an inquiry will have to decide that.
