Wierd. Why would the T20 captain and the test opener miss out, while a specialist T20 batsman gets one? White would miss out anyway. Hastings? Who's Hastings? Of course he should be a miss. But I would have thought that all encumbant players would get one regardless of how many that was. So it's OK for Bailey and Lee to skip a limited overs game to play IPL but not Dussey? I trust that the lack of a contract means a lack of control over the player too. They can't have it both ways.

Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has launched a foul-mouthed attack on Michael Atherton, his former Lancashire and England teammate who now works as a cricket pundit.

Flintoff, speaking to the London Evening Standard at a Sky TV party on Tuesday, criticised Atherton's work as a Sky commentator and cricket correspondent for The Times newspaper.

"He's a prick,'' said Flintoff of fellow former England captain Atherton.

"He's a f-----g prick. He sits there making judgments about players that are much better than he ever was, believe me, he's a prick.

"How can he talk about a player like Alastair Cook who is 10 times the player he ever was? He has a much bigger average and will go on and on. Atherton averaged in the 30s for England and yet he thinks he can judge others.''

Asked if he wanted his comments taken as 'off the record', Flintoff replied: "I don't care. Say what you like. There's no love lost there.''

"He has poisoned our water forever. Nixon will be remembered as a classic case of a smart man shitting in his own nest. But he also shit in our nests, and that was the crime that history will burn on his memory like a brand.

The 'overrated' Lee bowls 2 for a duck. Raining.
Is Mussey injured? If not, can someone please explain to me how Forrest is a better ODI batsman that Mussey?

Mussey is having a wee rest, he doesn't need to play the Micks

"A six-strong pace bowling battery must be pared down to three, Brett Lee to be supported by two of James Pattinson, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Johnson, Clint McKay and Ben Hilfenhaus."

What's your choice. Obviously the most exciting would be Lee, Pattinson and Cummins, but is that the best for an ODI in England? To me, Hilfenhaus screams English conditions and should be tried at least for the first match. Lee picks himself after getting 2 in the first 3 balls against Ireland. So do we go McKay for a round attack, or Cummins to try to scare the crap out of them?

Lee, Hilfenhaus, Cummins for me.

Reckon youve nailed it re: Hilfenhaus, he'll do well here. I think theyll go for Mackay, which hurts me but I think theyll play it safe. Plus it will give the poms a chance to belt 60 off the last over to win it.

Totally agree, except now that their Irish ring in is gone, I'm not sure Engalnd has anyone left that can hit the full tosses out of the ground.

As an aside, there is lots of chatter about the Irish getting test status. I'm all for it simply to weaken England. I reckon they should also give South Africa and Zimbabwe test status too ... wait, that didn't work.

Well I was all for it until the washed out ODI. No team that has Ed Joyce as Number 3 deserves test status.

From memory Ed played for England in ODI/T20 on one tour out here. He smashed us around in his first innings until we realised he could only play one shot - the kneeling swipe over cow corner. He never got a run after that. Hardly number 3 material.

Yeah, I remember when he towelled us up for a ton in 2007 or 2008 when the kiwis were here. Pretty sure he got runs against the kiwis as well, he was the toast of the town for a week.

He's good for Ireland from an experience point of veiw, but he isnt much chop otherwise.

Found it. 2006/2007.

In ODIs Ed Joyce got:

Against NZ - 5, 47, 66, 26
Against Aus - DNB, 5, 11, 107, 6, 15

T20 against Oz - 1

That's as an opener when England won the series. Hmmmm.

Ado's love child in the runs

Michael Clarke (76) and David Hussey (67) guided Australia to 9-313 from 50 overs and hostile spells from quicks Brett Lee (1-16) and Pat Cummins (3-26) ensured the home side was never in the hunt.

Essex were rolled for 134 in 32.4 overs.
