Who makes the best HOT SALAMI....

Postby bungy » Wed Feb 10, 2010 5:53 pm

Folks
I enjoy sitting having a coldie and tucking into a nice salami/cheese ect.I enjoy them as hot as they can make them. The problem is i can't find any here in Mackay that are hot.The most i can get is a slight bead of sweat on the brow.Only once have i regreted what i ate and that was from a place in Adelaide Handorff if that's how it's spelt. Was from a deli in the township and they were called bum burners and true to their word my clak valve has never been the same

Fellow AKFer's do any of you own or know anybody that makes hot salami or have a deli that you could recomend because i'm keen to purchase some in bulk.Anybody from SA know of this deli in Handorff if so some contact details would be good.
Cheers
Stevo....

Have a read through this link and you may at least find the name of the place you're looking for in Hahndorf....reference to "bum burners" suggests it may be the one you are looking for.

Had the tastiest and hottest salami in Spain, got it at a local market and was made by an old hungarian fella and his Spanish wife. Had two slices and was enjoying the flavour and then my mouth and throat were on fire, even my belly felt like it was burning. Had the hiccups all day and all night which meant I couldnt sleep, finally passed out exhausted about 530am and woke up fine, no salami hangover. I then made sure I took it easy on that salami stick with just a thin slice to get the flavour now and then. The salami lasted a month.
Havent found anything great here though.
There might be an online deli somewhere.

Mate - look for a decent continental butcher - someone who makes their own salami on site. There's a ripper place near me that makes all his own smallgoods on site, it's awesome.

If all else fails, cosy up to some of the locals. Find someone who makes their own backyard stuff. I've got a mate here who pools in with a few others, they raise a sow for a year, then slaughter and butcher it. Or someone that hunts wild pigs might be able to point you in the right direction also.
Cheers

My Brother from Perth came over for a visit and brought back some Bum Burner metwurst from the central market in Adelaide - and true to reputation, it burns. Turns out he left it in our fridge and I have the paper bag it came in beside me, complete with store info. It came from "The Mettwurst Shop, Stall 22, Central Market, Grote St, Adelaide 5000. ph 08 8231 7171 - see link http://www.adelaidecentralmarket.com.au ... wurst-shop

Happy burners ! ;-)

My mate Darren - he's a butcher at the Ulladualla Meat Market - makes the most STUPID HOT salami and cabanossi you could imagine. Get the phone number and give him a ring. He'll make you one up and send it to you. I guarantee you're freckle will bleed.
(and yes, that is just from eating it - not doing anything else weird  )
