Looks like an ok game, but why is there so much time between each play?

[mod edit: OT]

The game of Gridiron derived from rugby with the officials of the time sitting down and working out the problems they could see and coming up with Gridiron. But in saying this I personnally have put my opinion across to many people on the fact that Rugby league is only 2 rule changes away from gridiron. In the 80"s Jack Gibson whilst coaching Parramatta went to America and came back with the Defensive style of play and it was that effective that made the game that boring they changed the rule to allow more open play (10 metre rule ) and now with the game so fast the defence cant get onside quick enough and the injuries mount. Solution stop play and let the defence form onside before play starts. Then we come back to the original problem boring footbal so how do we let them score against the impregnible defence rule change 2 Forward Pass. only 2 rules changes and the whole game changes to Gridiron.

I suspect the NFL has a much better tactical 'embarassing story' suppression team. ;)

Well what did ya think of the game? New Orleans really gave it to them didn't they. I found it fairly exciting even though I don't really understand it. Go the Saints.

By the way I was reading in the paper the other day about a reported increase in head trauma sustained in this game. Apparently people have only just started to realise it as serious problem, as the players start to age. There was some talk about changing rules to lessen deliberate head attacks, but apparently the NFL are reluctant to do anything, which I find quite remarkable. Anyone following the sport know anything about that?

even my long dead grandfather would speak of old pommy soccer players made a bit punchy from too many headers with a damp leather football..gridiron certainly involved many head/neck jolts irrespective of shock absorbers in helmets etc..
..some reports of increase in alzheimers through to brain cysts, tremors, loss of memory[see changa's injury from car fall..or fatty's]...i e premature senility,dementia....just things that i have read and stand to be corrected on..

head injuries are not obvious problems to diagnose and the damage may be cumulative...I suspect personally that a good head shot leads to undiagnosed mal alignments of the neck ...dizziness,post concussion stress syndrome..no professional expertise on the matter claimed and i am correctable on all comments..

got a bad k.o.,2 concussions and a fracture x2 in a finger in my last year of rugby in northland-maybe that's what's wrong!so i retired..
