NSW: 23/5 Nice albeit quiet day out on Sydney Harbour

Postby VolumeTwo » Wed May 23, 2012 5:38 pm

G'day all,

First report here from my second trip out on my new yak!

Headed out this morning around 8am. Plan was to paddle around some markers and flick some sp's etc.

Landed a nice trevally on my first cast. Great little fighting fish! The session, however, had peaked way too soon!
Managed just a few small snapper and a great looking little flagtail.

Didn't see any surface/bird activity.

Beautiful day out on the water though!

What are peoples favourite Sydney Harbour winter options?

Blackfish and sawtail surgeonfish are fun in winter when not much else is happening. And squid, usually get bigger calamari in winter.

I think most of the usual species are still around, but things are a bit slower. If you can find one the kings tend to be alot bigger. Stopping them is another story all together. Snapper should be on the inshore reefs pretty soon.
Get a warm winters day and its just nice to out on the water. Doesn't get too hot and any fish are a bonus. Great for just touring around with a lure out just in case a fish finds it.
