After a flatty for Pirtek Challenge...Wello Pt

Postby rob316 » Sun Apr 15, 2012 11:04 am

I had a 3 hour window to get a fish for a flatty this morning , 0500 until 0800 , before family commitments stole my time away...it was a failure and went something like this...
0430 - out of bed and off to Wellington Pt , 15 mins of driving in the rain praying it would soon stop...
0500 - Sitting under some picnic shelters near my launch point looking at very dark skys and it pouring rain...
0530 - still bloody raining and I don't want to get wet...
0600 - looks like it might slow with the sun due to make an appearance soon...
0610 - on the water , light drizzle but showers are passing more southerly now so might get an hour and a half in...
0700 - fishing shallows , maybe 3-4 ft of water , where I usually get flathead without trying most trips , none showing yet...
0800 - after rainbows , showers , clearing sky then greying sky again I have to pack up and leave , no flathead , not impressed !!!

Was using zman prawns , squidgy variety and atomic hardbody lures , caught 6 small squire , about a dozen bream , a sole and some steroid induced pike...glad I made a contribution to the prostate cancer cause anyway - trendy hat and bragmat was a bonus - the flathead are lucky I had some "younger taylor" to attend to or I'd still be hunting them...

ps..taylor = last name - not the fishies !!!

Sounds like my morning. I tossed up fishing Wello Pt for the Pirtek, but decided that if the fish were to be either whiting or flathead then I should try somewhere more flathead looking. I went to Bribie instead hoping that water coming out of Ningi Ck would have flathead lying in wait for bait fish and a fat bloke on a kayak. Lots of paddling and lots of rain saw me with one bream and one flatty that spat the hook at the yak. Bugger! Nothing to measure. :? Oh well maybe next year.

Hey Jamie , been married 20+ years now...it's not the wife I'm worried about anymore if I am late , its the damn teenage daughter - NOW THAT'S TROUBLE...!!!!
And Wello wasn't my first choice , but my "local" didn't have the tides right this morning for me , I may even get a chance to flick a lure late this arvo for a 2nd chance...unless my afternoon "nana" nap gets extended... 8)

I tried the Well this morning for a Flatty, nothing there either. I managed a couple of 50 or so cm trevs but no flat fish.

thinking of walking out to King for a try, not sure if I could be bothered but.
