Nah I checked. If I transfer it will cancel the Optus contract and I'll incur the cancellation charges which are greater than the monthly fees I have left to pay.

Telstra dude told me I could only transfer the number on starting the new contract, and not later. Happy if someone else can say thats not the case.
Cheers

Yeah I'll need your new number Scotty, cause if I ever manage to catch a bigger fish, you'll be the first to know....lucky bastard.

Congrats to Lynette and to Scott on stopping the torpedos. No one ever lands a longtail without a long fight.

Scott that old SIM card should be able to be transferred, but as you said wait till the contract is out. I think it is called 'porting', but not sure...I'd get another opinion from Telstra.

Well done folks..leave some for us.

That really sucks. Does this qualify for a TOW award?

Buy a cheap phone to ride out the rest of your contract. Start the new contract with telstra at the end of this and take your number with you.
Use the old phone you bought on the kayak.
Or buy one of these:

Lazy, there are a few vids on youtube showing you how to repair a waterlogged iphone. Despite it being salt water, if you get some of the spray used in the videos (anti corrosion), strip it down quick enough, pull apart the logic board and spray on copious amounts on the guts, give it a scrub with the toothbrush, dry and re-assemble you may be able to save it. You have a good shot if the chips in the logic board are no burnt out. You can pick up the tools to do it for about $15 from jaycar.
