More Snapper and Snook (Video Report)

Postby mcbigg » Sat Feb 28, 2009 3:26 pm

Sorry about the music, I had a good song for the soundtrack but YouTube made me swap it for one of their non-copyright songs. :( Bring back the old youtube.

Both pinkies were 38cm, snook were 55cm and 70cm.

One pinky caught on green hardbody lure, along with small squid and both snook.

Couple of under sized pinkies along with the other keeper pinky (38cm) and some big bust offs with the soft plastic.

AWESOME! I like the camera angle. Do you ever drift the plastics or just cast? Ive tried both but neither seem to work when chasing reds.

A little from column A, and a little from column B.

Usually I drift the plastics with the wind pushing me along, and then switch to casting when going against the wind or want to cast at some reefs like you can see in the background of the vid.

2 different rods. Both Penn Prion rods from prion combos bought at kmart , 2-4kg and 8-10kg . Smaller reel is a penn prion 2000, larger reel is a shimano sienna 4000. I really rate the penn gear, especially the prion range. They've not let me down yet. I've broken 4 graphite rods doing various stupid things, and am yet to break a prion but give them the same punishment the graphites used to get.

thanks for that paul - do you ever launch and fish in the carpenters bay? - looked 'fishy' near the island at the entrance but there was a bit a swell coming through even though it was a pretty flat day everywhere else

Yeah, the snook I've caught up till now have felt like a bit of weed once you turn their head and come in really easily. This one was a real energetic with several short runs and a yak-side frenzy, resulting in the unconventional netting.

I went for a snorkel once in the Carpenters bay and out to the island you speak of. Compared to the pelican point bay, there just seemed far less fish and no crays, so I never really bothered returning. May check it out again one day if the mood strikes me. I would love to eventually, on a REALLY calm day, launch at Pelican Point and pedal to carpenter rocks. Getting around the headland (that I went up to, this trip) would need very calm seas.
Would also like to do a Carpenter Rocks to Cape Banks trip. (about the same distance in the other direction from Carpenters.)

As it is, where I launch from at pelican point provides better shelter if the seas are sloppy and more options, fishing-wise.

Cheers, Paul.

Great job on the production of the vid Paul.
Do you use Windows MovieMaker, or Ulead VideoStudio, or other?
Cheers,
Matty.
