Transducer install -- Does this look OK ?

Postby 4weightfanatic » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:05 pm

I one of many took advantage of the cheap Garmin Echo 100 sounders on sale at Dick Smiths recently so got to work and did most of the install today. I have an Australis Bass kayak and really only want the unit for depth and schooling bass in the dams and unlikely to go near the salt.I bit the bullet and used the Selley's All Clear to mount the transducer after heating it up and pretty sure I didn't get any bubbles underneath. Is it deep enough in the silicone and does it have to be half up the sides ? Any criticism is welcome as I have never installed one let alone own a sounder before. Cheers Pat.

Mounting block I made for the display allowing it to be moved back & forth

Unit can be positioned out of the sun for better picture view.
My battery will sit in a shelf above the unit so the power cable will just come down from above and the transducer cable from behind around the side of the seat and along the central keel bar with a loop of slack to allow sliding back or forth. Another reason I want to be able to slid it up out of the sun it allows me to drape a towel across my legs to strip my fly line into and out of the way but I still will be able to read and operate it. Cheers Pat.

I was probably a fair bit more generous with my silicone when I did mine that way but as long as the entire base of the tranny is in the silicone you should be okay. Not 100% sure if the signal is sent/received just on the bottom but I would expect so given the angle of the beam is reasonably small. Only one way to find out.

Cheers Indie I'll give it a couple of days to cure then drop it in my local lake for a test but I'm pretty happy with how it went down. Cheers Pat.

Agree with Steve be patient Pat, particularly with it being cold at present. The install looks good.

Cheers fellas I'll give it the extra few days as you suggest pretty ordinary conditions at the moment anyway. Cheers Pat.
