Moken 13 Deluxe Angler ... oops..another boat...

Postby Artie » Thu Mar 29, 2012 6:50 am

Many of you will know how happy Ive been with the Quest 11, so much so that when thinking about a Mirage drive boat Im automatically looking for a Revo..... of course Gretl wants her own boat.

That doesnt mean that I dont look at other boats when they become available, but seriously, I want a Revo (Bretts got the right idea, one of each...).

Then is saw this.... Moken 13 Deluxe Angler.... intitial thought was "a bit large".

The first thing that caught my eye was the price and then the level of fitout, a harder look and some research on the yak itself and we bought it.

It ticks the safety box for Gretl and it will spend a lot of time in freshwater and mostly inshore in the salt...

When Ive had some decent seat time ill do a side by side report with the Quest....
Cheers

I love my Revo mate, Its a shame I haven't had the opportunity to take it out more recently. I'm looking forward to dusting it off for Ewen Maddock Dam next month and the Bribie KFT. Scarborough is on the cards soon too. The logistics of transporting the quest is just so much easier for the areas I'm fishing at the moment. Its hard to go past it.

The Mokens are nice yaks. I gave them (particularly the Moken 10 & 12) pretty serious consideration before I finally settled on the Quest. They ticked a lot of boxes, just not as many as the quest did for my particular needs.

But like anyone I'm always looking at other yaks to fill other needs too. Have my eye on an AI, PA and Stealth 465, I just don't have a spare $10K to pay for them.

Gday Brett, I understand your thoughts. I also had a look at Berto's Wavedancer, but to be honest, while the price was good, it had to be spectacular for me to be able to put up with the pink (fuschia) tones, other than that, it looked like a nice boat. Gretl didnt mind it, the propblem was all mine..

Still getting a Revo though.... ahhh, (see's the light) so THATS how that happens.... I see guys here with multiple boats and think to myself... overpaid public servants (or similar)... but now I see why... simply no self control (like me).....

Does this mean I need more DSI sounders?
Cheers

Public servant - yes.
Overpaid - No.
Overspend - Yes.

Question on the DSI Artie... Is it a regular sonar too in addition to having DSI capabilities or is it just down imaging? I'm struggling to understand the differences. I should probably read into them more sometime.

Oops, that joke might have been a bit close to the bone....

Yes it is regular sonar, just enhanced some.... if you are asking can you use it like a Garmin with fish shapes, then no... sadly cause Garmins are great units in their own right when it comes to fish ID, just dont show the structure as well as the DSI.

Dont quote me on this, but I THINK that the DSI is a development of Lowrances amazing SideScan Technology, which only a couple of years ago would have filled a large suitcase. To miniaturise it to the size of the Elite 4 in that time is amazing.

Understood completely Artie. It was never FOR Gretl... That was just the way you had the ministry of finance rubber stamp the decision. Much the same way two Kingy's turned into a Revo and an AI.

Not sure if you noticed, but that Moken is awfully blue.
Looks just like my first Kingy, now at a good home down in our hub.
cheers,
