I think the hull may be too weak to support bolted tube fittings and there isn't much room with the mirage drive inboard for Scotties anyway.
I am talking blue water gear so fancy extensions are probably not up to the task and would apply to much torque to the hull mount regardless.
Only one place left to go then - outboard!
The Aka crossbraces are a logical place but clamping rodholders again would result in a lot of torque which would twist the brace stressing the ball socket and might just cause premature failure of the plastic sacrificial shear bolt- something to be avoided at all costs!
Well looks like it's time to get engineer on it's ass!
I removed the spare shear-bolt and replaced it with a mini torsion bar Made from 1/4 inch 316 stainless bar.
The torsion bar locks in place naturally and prevents stress on the structural components - happy fishing.
- Crossbrace Torsion Bar.
- Locked in Place
- Scotty rod Holder within easy Reach
- Slotted End for Crimp Washer
Note: The torsion bar may impede the normal collapse of the Ama in the event that the plastic shear bolt fails.
I have not done any practical tests to verify the outcome.
Anyone got a clamping solution for the crossbar behind the seat or other secure rodholder idea?
