Had another play on the T1V while the weather was lousy through the week

Had a Viking backrest to spare, so had an upholsterer modify the strap position and also the width [$10] and attached a couple of saddles on the rear deck, so now have the option of two backrests, this one or the original Perception model.

Extended the anchor pulley from stern only to full length, after some challenges in the wind last week, when a bow drag would have been better.

Also have included a picture of the shopping basket with its attaching handle straps more easily seen

I reckon so, but a pain in the bum when getting in or out compared to the Perception one...if I'm in an area where I might be dunked and have to reboard from the water ie; lots of speedies or surf, the high back will stay home

Have just finished retuning the Swing and it's probably complete now.

About 6 weeks ago I replaced one of the flush holders on the left gunwale with a Berkley adjustable rod holder to troll 2 rods at once.

But found when a fish was on one rod, the line on the untouched rod often snagged on the rear carry handle, or my basket, or body as the boat swung by the fight, or breeze, but found I could eliminate that, by using the rigging holder on the gunwale thus lifting the tip and the line cleared everything to be recovered without incident when the fight on the active rod was over.

With the right rod sometimes having to sit on the left side [if the dormant rod], it was often a mess of nets, leashes and flapping fish so needed a cure.

Mounted another flush deck rigging holder on the right today so no cross over of rods is required when standing the free rod, able to have same side stand up rod 8)

Also took the opportunity to move the right cleat forward 150mm [easier access] for the drogue and anchor line when on the anchor trolley, and had to plastic weld a couple of bolt holes in the former position

G'day Dodge,

I have a Scotty's Rod holder to mount to my boy's Swing. My Q is, how do you get a flush, water-tight fit, given that the gunwhales are slightly curved, not flat?

If we are not going to install a fish finder, do you see any issues with a rod holder fitted to that spot in the centre?

Cheers, mate.

Adrian
You will be surprised how little effect the deck curve has for the rod holder, I cut my hole and use a rasp to shape where the holder is angled below the deck [one side has a bevel above deck and the opposite the bevel is inside] when you slide the holder in you will feel where it needs the deck to be eased a bit so it goes flush, I then drill my 3 screw/bolt holes [bolts preferred], and remove the holder...a ring of sealant around the big hole[or under the holder flange] and bit around each screw hole the final fit and it will be sealed good as gold.

Re the console area holder mounting, the only thing may be the depth of the holder in relation to the space below, and the need to shorten the holder if required.

On an OK Scupper Pro I played with in that same location, we cut the holder to the desired length so as to fit in place, then a plug of pool noodle was pushed into the holder to the bottom until it hit the keel of the yak inside and made a watertight seal for the boat... it has been knocked around in the surf many times since and no leaks at all mate

Adrian that's were I have a rod holder fitted and it is fine. Doesn't get in the way of paddling. Also have a fishfinder just behind the drink bottle holder.

Thanks Dodge, ar-we-there-yet. Useful advice, though my rod holder isn't the flush-mount type - it is the Scotty 280 baitcast/spin type above-deck rod holder - the spot I was asking about was forward of the centre flush-mount (which we already have, but short butted rods are not secure in, and not really suitable for trolling) - pretty much where the lure is, in your photo, ar-we-there-yet.

Any thoughts?
