Now I know they wouldn't usually be considered a trolling lure, but I'll troll pretty much anything I have tied on between spots, and I had one of these tied on the other day as I though a strong vibration might get a hit in the muddy water I was fishing. (It didn't)
Anyhow, I'm pedaling along in my own little world enjoying the scenery and serenity - and wondering what the bloody "humming / buzzing" sound is. It's intermittent, sometimes louder, sometimes softer, sometimes absent. The wind? No, sound level not corresponding to wind strength at all. Must be some sort of farm machinery off in the distance. But it doesn't sound far away. If I had an electric pump on my 'yak I'd think it was running on and off and perhaps had a bearing / bush on the way out. Only electronics I have are the sounder and the battery powered white light, which is turned off. Sounder is functioning normally.
This must have gone on for over an hour before the penny dropped. The scumvibe was sending it's high frequency pulse alont the braid to the rod, which was making the buzzing sound when it was in the ram-tube holder! Obviously when I was holding the rod it was quiet, also when in the "milkcrate bullhorn" it was silent. My speed through the water affected the frequency and volume.
So - I didn't catch any fish on it (yet), but these cheap lures sure have an awesome action and I'm sure they will catch fish, both in the salt and the fresh.
